Hogwarts first year students are traditionally transported to the castle by boat, accompanied by Hogwarts gamekeeper Hagrid across the Black Lake from Hogsmeade Station at the start of the school year. After this, the new students are sorted into four different houses by the Sorting Hat.
Arrival at Hogwarts is the 8th quest in the main storyline and the first one to take place at Hogwarts. The whole quest serves mainly storytelling purposes and is filled with cutscenes. You get to see Hogwarts for the first time and you get sorted into your house. If you want to make sure you get sorted to where you truly belong, you can check out Sorting Ceremony Mechanics.
Steps[]
- Find Hagrid and follow him to the boats
- Get into one of the boats and enter Hogwarts
- Walk up to the Entrance Courtyard
- Interact with the Sorting Hat

Right then, first years!
Ye' all get yer firs' sight o' Hogwarts in a sec, jus' follow me ter the boats.
Come on now, firs' years, don’t be shy.

'Tis a beautiful sight, I tell yeh. I remember me firs' time seein' it.
I got sorted into Gryffindor! House o' the brave! Some folk even say the reckless, ha!

How to complete the quest[]
Get off the train and find Hagrid. He is waiting for you at the end of the platform. Speak to him (press F) and follow him to the boats. After he finishes his speech, hop into a boat. This will take you all the way to Hogwarts via a cutscene. After arriving at Hogwarts, follow the path up to the castle. Once you step in, a cutscene will start and Professor McGonagall will bring you into the Great Hall. The Sorting ceremony follows the cutscene. Press F to speak to the Sorting Hat. Answer all questions and get sorted into one of the houses.
